Director of Communications

Competitive Salary

BWEA is at the heart of the rapidly expanding wind, wave and tidal energy industries having successfully championed its members' needs for over 25 years. The Association has more than 330 member companies, a staff of 15 and a turnover in excess of £1.5m. BWEA is based in Islington, North London.

The provision of clean and secure energy has risen rapidly in the last 12 months as the wind industry recently passed the 2 gigawatt mark of installed capacity. This is a vital response to the UK government's target to generate 10% of our electricity from renewable energy sources by 2010. The UK is blessed with a huge potential to harness renewable energy sources - we have 40% of the total European wind resource – and wind energy is now delivering at scale to meet the target, blazing a trail for the marine technologies to follow, exploiting the equally tremendous wave and tidal stream potential of our coastline. The industry is expanding rapidly with most major energy companies now involved in the sector as well as a host of independent players. Rapid UK and global growth brings challenges in the development, construction and operation of projects and importantly the UK supply chain.

Post Profile:
Accountable to the CEO, the Director of Communications will lead, manage and drive the BWEA's communications team activities in our busy London office, raising the profile of the industry and the Association. Working with the Policy & Programme Team, the Director will devise and deliver the Association's communications strategy with maximum effect, including a range of public relations and public affairs initiatives. The post holder will work closely with the full spectrum of media at a senior level, to foster good relations and increase access, and will prepare and relay information with press, business and other stakeholders as appropriate.

Candidate Profile:

If you believe you meet our requirements and feel you have the experience, drive and commitment to lead BWEA communications, write telling us why, together with your CV and current salary details to Maria McCaffery, CEO, BWEA, 1, Aztec Row, Berners Rd. LONDON N1 0PW or .
